The theme of this event is "Shinagawa's Great Cultural Festival, where the B-sides of the town and people come together." The event's name, "CULTURE SNACK," reflects the desire to create the town's culture (CULTURE) with the people involved in the town and to enjoy it casually like snacks (SNACK).

At the event, our Marketing & Sustainability Division's Sustainability Project Department, Regional Revitalization Support Office, and Design Center will work together to exhibit and sell products from the Noto Old Wood Rescue Project, an initiative to upcycle old wood from the Noto Peninsula, as well as hold a Staghorn Fern Workshop, in which old wood will be used as boards for displaying ornamental plants.

Everyone is welcome to participate, so please come along.

What is the Noto Old Wood Rescue Project?

The Noto Peninsula, home to towns that prospered through trade with Kitamaebune ships and rich Satoyama and Satoumi, is home to many historic buildings. Many of these were damaged in the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake and are being targeted for demolition at public expense.
Is there any way to preserve the buildings that our ancestors built with great care using fine timber, even if not in their original form? In response to the wishes of such homeowners, the Noto Fukkou Lab, a volunteer coordination organization based in Mitsuimachi, Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture, started the Noto Old Wood Rescue Project.

In this project, at the request of the homeowner, we will rescue surface materials such as flooring and fixtures from the house before demolition, and with the cooperation of the demolition company, structural materials such as pillars and beams during demolition. The rescued materials will be cleaned and stored, and we will explore how they can be used for various purposes, with the value of passing on memories.

In response to the earthquake, our company, mainly through the "Regional Revitalization Support Office," exchanged opinions with business people in Noto with whom we had long-standing connections, and decided to support the launch of the "Noto Old Wood Rescue Project." We provided support mainly in administrative tasks, and have begun considering how to utilize the rescued wood in creating spaces.
For more details about the project, please visit the Nonoto Fukkou Lab website.
