Art and craft platform "B-OWND" will hold its first online event "Stay at Home with ART" to enjoy art at home

  • News Release

Tanseisha will be holding an online event called "Stay at Home with ART" on its art and craft platform "B-OWND" (URL: https://www.b-ownd.com), where people can enjoy art at home.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, exhibitions and events have been canceled or postponed, and artists, who are the bearers of culture, have lost a place to work. With no clear outlook for the future, we fear that an increasing number of artists and art-related people will be unable to work. In response to this crisis, we will provide a place where artists can exhibit and buy and sell their works, and as a first for "B-OWND," we will support the revitalization of artists and the Japanese art market by hosting an online event that connects buyers and artists.

Only those who purchase eligible works on the "B-OWND" EC site during the period can participate in the online event. At the event, you can hear the artist himself explain the work, and there will be time for free talk, providing an opportunity to enjoy art from home through two-way communication. The first event is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, May 5th, with ceramic artist Ryotaro Kato as the guest. Applications to purchase eligible works and participate in the event will be accepted from April 22nd. The second and subsequent events will be announced sequentially on the media site "B-OWND Magazine" (URL: https://media.b-ownd.com).

Through this service, we aim to continue to expand the Japanese art market, broaden the scope of activities for artists and craftspeople who are the "bearers of culture" in Japan, and contribute to the promotion of Japanese culture and arts. Furthermore, in our business of creating spaces, we will also challenge ourselves to create new spatial value through collaboration with artists.

About "B-OWND"

"B-OWND" is a new blockchain-based platform for Japanese arts and crafts that Tanseisha has been providing since May 2019.

Service Features:
1. Media Functions

It serves as a promotional and curation medium, providing a place for artists to disseminate information and artworks, for artists to discover and interact with other artists, and for artists to evaluate artworks (reviewers).
2. Market Function
Through e-commerce, we will be able to sell artworks both domestically and internationally. By opening up the Japanese art market to collectors both in Japan and overseas, we will contribute to the "expansion of the art market" and "improvement of international presence," which are part of the "cultural economy strategy" promoted by Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan for Cultural Affairs.
3. Authenticity and distribution management function of artworks
Using blockchain, we will automate the process of verifying the authenticity and managing distribution of art and craft works. We will also promote a "rebate model" that allows artists to receive a portion of the transaction fee during secondary distribution (the option to provide a rebate can be changed in the settings).
System Development in collaboration with Startbahn Co., Ltd., and through this business collaboration, we aim to support the activities of the next generation of artists and promote Japanese art and craft works.

Comment from participating artist Ryotaro Kato (ceramist)

In this difficult global situation, protecting people's lives, health, and livelihoods is our number one priority.
For this reason, I'm sure you are all now thinking about how you should spend your time at home. I believe that it is precisely at times like these that art can soothe people's hearts and give them the energy to live.
Pottery in particular is an art form that is touched by the hands, touched by the mouth, and enjoyed, and is also used to hold food and drink, the source of life. We share a "hard cup" to connect with all of you who love pottery and overcome this together. With that meaning in mind, let's enjoy this moment together.
For tomorrow.

Comment from Seiichiro Yoshida, General Manager of the Business Development Division, Cultural Spaces Business Department TANSEISHA Co., Ltd.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, many art galleries and museums have been closed, and art fairs and exhibitions have been canceled, resulting in a rapid decline in opportunities to experience art and culture. We planned this online event because we believe that the power of art is especially important in these times of global anxiety. We hope that you will be able to enjoy art from the comfort of your own home, by picking up wonderful works of art and interacting with artists, as well as supporting artists who have lost their venues for exhibitions and other activities.
