JDN launched the design information site "JDN" in 1997, and has continued to provide information on design by running the contest information site "Toryumon," the design-focused job information site "Design no Oshigoto," and the graduation exhibition introduction site "Graduation Exhibition." Utilizing the knowledge gained from running design media over a quarter century, "Design no Tobira" was opened to provide information that will help people who are considering continuing their education or their future to learn about the world of "design."
In a survey of students, we created "Design no Tobira" based on the voices of students who said, "I don't know how to choose a school that suits me," "I want to choose a school that focuses on what I will be learning," and "There is not enough information about classes and teachers," as well as issues from schools such as "We want people to know more about our school." In addition to posting school information from a unique perspective, we also publish comprehensive content such as event information and reading material such as open campuses and graduation exhibitions, connecting readers who are thinking about continuing to school or their future with schools and companies. We aim to be an information site that conveys the excitement and depth of "design" in daily life and the fun of learning, and serves as a "door" to the world of "design."
In the future, as expectations for the power of design grow, the Tanseisha Group's JDN will continue to contribute to expanding the base of design talent through the newly launched "Design no Tobira."
Features of "Design no Tobira" - Three contents that connect readers who are thinking about further education or their future with schools and companies
The content reflects the results of a survey of students. We also interviewed professors and lecturers to create a structure that conveys the wide range of options available in the design field after entering university.
<Survey results regarding collection of school information>
・While considering where to go to school, I am having trouble choosing the right school for me and finding the right information.
・When preparing for further education, I research what I can learn, such as classes and departments, but there is a lack of information about classes and teachers.
(Survey subjects: 300 current and future students at universities and vocational schools related to design, art, and architecture / Survey period: December 2020)
1. School information search function "Find a school"
We have set up "12 Notobira" which classifies the design and creative fields into 12 categories (※) and organizes information from a design perspective. In addition to school type, region, and public/private, we have also compared the 12 Notobira with the curriculum of each school and tagged them as "what you can learn" and "jobs you can aim for" to make them searchable. By learning about each category and imagining what you will learn and the future that lies ahead, you can find a school that is more suitable for you.
*12 categories: Graphics/Illustration, Product, Interior/Space, Architecture, Fashion, Photography/ Video, Web/CG/Game, Engineering, General Design, Crafts, Theater, Art

"Find a school" search screen. You can search by "What you can learn" and "Possible careers."
Introducing the school's faculties and departments. By tagging, you can search across the board.
2. Event search function "Search for events"
We have developed and expanded the website "Graduation Exhibition," which has been running since 1998 and is specialized in the exhibition of graduation works by students studying design and art. We list about 70 schools nationwide where you can learn design and creativity, about 500 faculties and departments, and about 80 events (at the time of publication), such as open campuses, information sessions, school festivals, and graduation exhibitions, to promote the appeal of the schools. We provide an opportunity for people considering continuing their education to participate in the events and learn about the schools.
3. "Reading material" provides articles that give hints for thinking about further education and the careers that lie ahead
In addition to introducing the school's initiatives and reporting on the graduation exhibition, which is the culmination of learning at the school, articles will be produced by the editorial department, who are in regular contact with the design and creative fields through the operation of media such as the design information site "JDN". We will provide a variety of content that conveys the appeal of schools, companies, and jobs.
Comments: About the opening of "Design no Tobira"
Shinji Yajima (Executive Director, Japan Institute of Design Promotion)
It's been almost a quarter century since I first learned about JDN and met you soon after in 1998. From then until now, you have been our best media partner, providing us with a great deal of support in our design promotion activities. You are now launching a new website, and I heard that your aim is to convey the joy and possibilities of design to the younger generation, which also coincides perfectly with our association's policy. Let's work together to develop a door that will open up a bright future for Japanese design.
Tsuneo Hong (Executive Creative Director of the Company; Professor The University Museum)
While design provides timeless value, it also constantly produces innovative things that pave the way for a new era through the development of new technologies and ideas. The expansion of creativity, which goes beyond conventional boundaries and expands the scope of its fields, captures and inspires the hearts of users. In this modern age, creative talent is increasingly in demand and is expected to flourish. As designers on the ground, we hope to meet a wide range of young talent through "Design no Tobira" in order to create new designs.
