We have developed a fireproof wall material called "R Nice" and created a process for 100% material recycling.

  • News Release

Tanseisha has worked on planning and formulating the non-combustible wall material (decorative calcium silicate board) "R Nice," and has established a process that allows for 100% material recycling in cooperation with intermediate treatment facilities and recycling facilities in addition to the manufacturing company that developed it.
"R Nice" will be available for general sale from Friday, December 1st by AICA Corporation (Director and CEO: Kenji Ebiwara, headquarters: Nakamura-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture), which co-promoted and developed the project.
Tanseisha will continue to propose and introduce this product with the aim of making "R Nice" the best standard in non-flammable wall materials, and will promote the creation of environmentally friendly spaces from both the material and construction perspectives.

Background of the initiative

Tanseisha has set "preservation of the natural environment" as one of its materiality (important issues) in its CSR efforts, and is promoting the reduction of environmental impact throughout all of its corporate activities, including Environmental Consideration in space creation. In its space creation business, the company strives to reduce the amount of resources and energy consumed and disposed of, and aims to create spaces that are friendly to both people and the environment, setting out six specific items for "Environmental Consideration design" (healthy design, 3R design, energy-saving design, universal design, safety design, and cultural property Preservation Planning) and working to achieve these.
This time, Tanseisha focused on "non-combustible wall materials," which are essential for building restaurants with kitchens but have not been recycled, and planned and devised new building materials, reviewing the raw materials used, which were then developed by a manufacturing company. Furthermore, by collaborating with Tanseisha, the manufacturing company, intermediate treatment facilities, and recycling facilities, a process was created that allows for 100% material recycling. Furthermore, from the unique perspective of Tanseisha, which designs and constructs stores, "R Nice" adopts a construction method that leads to reduced on-site labor as a standard specification.

(1) 100% material recyclable

Previously, non-combustible materials used in restaurant kitchens were landfilled due to the white pigments used, which were a major obstacle to recycling. This time, we reconsidered the concept of functional interior materials, and proceeded with the planning and development of products that eliminate pigments but still have sufficient functional performance. By working with manufacturers, intermediate treatment facilities, and recycling facilities, we established a new scheme to reuse the materials as part of the cement raw materials after use. (*)
*As we have a system of designated recycling companies, at the time of launch, industrial waste will only be collected by designated companies in 1 metropolitan area and 12 prefectures (Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, Chiba, Ibaraki, Gunma, Tochigi, Yamanashi, Miyagi, Fukushima, Nagano, Niigata, and Shizuoka).

(2) Reducing on-site man-hours and construction costs

Currently, as part of work style reform in the construction industry, efforts are being made to shorten and reduce the amount of work at each construction site. "R Nice" is applied in one layer to the base studs and finished by directly fastening with screws, reducing the amount of work required at the construction site.

(3) Reducing ancillary construction work will help curb CO2 emissions and resolve the issue of a shortage of craftsmen

By reducing the amount of work carried out on-site, we can also reduce incidental construction and transportation, thereby reducing the amount of CO2 emissions associated with these. As materials and labor that were previously required are no longer necessary, the burden of the recent rise in material costs is reduced, and the problem of a shortage of craftsmen is also resolved.

Comment from Michio Morinaga, Director TANSEISHA Co., Ltd.

This time, the development of a new building material was realized by the ideas based on the unique perspective that we have cultivated in our daily interior design and construction work, and the approach to the cooperating companies and partner companies necessary to realize the ideas, and the establishment of a cooperative system. "R Nice" has been adopted in advance by a major coffee shop that practices sustainable activities, and I feel that it is a big step for the industry, responding to the demands of society and the potential needs of business owners in a way that is unique to the display industry, leading to an approach to curbing climate change.
