Selected as "Tokyo Metropolitan Government's 'Barrier-Free Mind' Good Practice Company for 2018"

  • News Release

Tanseisha has been registered as a "Tokyo Metropolitan Government 'Barrier-Free in the Mind' Support Company for FY2018" as a company that is working to raise awareness of barrier-free in the mind. In addition, out of the supporting companies registered this year, Tanseisha has been selected as a "Good Example Company for 'Barrier-Free in the Mind' for FY2018" for implementing particularly outstanding initiatives.

In addition to promoting understanding of diversity within the company, we plan and implement a wide range of activities in cooperation with other organizations. We also conduct "diversity training" for all executives and employees to deepen their understanding of diversity, and promote the creation of a workplace environment that is easy for employees with disabilities to work in, such as ensuring information access to the hearing impaired. We also hold diversity awareness events in cooperation with companies, organizations, and local governments, providing many people with the opportunity to think about "barrier-free minds." Since 2005, we have co-hosted "Universal Camp in Hachijojima" with an NPO, and more than 2,000 people have participated to date. In creating spaces for our business, we are working to put into practice universal design that assumes a diverse range of users.

In recognition of these efforts, we have been registered as a "Supporting Company for 'Barrier-Free Minds'" by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Furthermore, from the 150 companies registered this year, we were selected as one of 11 "Good Example Companies for 'Barrier-Free Minds'."

Going forward, we will continue to pursue diversity initiatives, which we have identified as a materiality (important issue), and strive to create an environment in which diverse employees can fully utilize their respective capabilities and thrive, as well as to create universal design spaces that take into consideration a wide range of users.

About the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's "Barrier-Free Mind" Support Companies

Tokyo is promoting the creation of a welfare city where everyone can live and visit safely, securely, and comfortably, and it is important to take proactive steps to remove social and environmental barriers so that everyone can be considerate, making the "barrier-free mind" a reality. With an eye on the Tokyo 2020 Games, the city has been working with companies and other organizations to foster social momentum for a barrier-free mind, and since fiscal 2018 has been registering companies and other organizations that are working to raise awareness as "Barrier-Free Mind Support Companies."

About the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's "Barrier-Free Mind Support Corporate Collaboration Project" (Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Social Welfare and Public Health)

Overview of our initiatives

(1) Implementing "diversity training" for all executives and employees
We conduct training for all executives and employees to deepen their understanding of diversity. The training is structured to promote awareness and raise consciousness by focusing on dialogue with people with diverse characteristics, such as visual impairments, hearing impairments, physical disabilities, LGBT people, and foreigners. In addition, employees with disabilities themselves are involved in planning and running the training.

(2) Promoting understanding of diversity through events in collaboration with companies, organizations, and local governments
We are holding "Universal Camp in Hachijojima", "Universal Camp Tokyo", and "Shibuya 2020. Let's Experience the Daily Life of Super Welfare Exhibition" in cooperation with companies, organizations, and local governments. We encourage many people to participate in these events, remove mental barriers, and promote awareness of accepting and utilizing diversity.

(3) Emphasis on inclusive processes in which stakeholders participate in planning and implementing activities
Diverse people, including people with disabilities, are involved in the planning and running of the training and events in (1) and (2). In addition to the content of the activities, we place emphasis on being inclusive in the implementation process itself.

Comments from the Welfare Town Development Promotion Council

The project involves various parties, including local governments, and is ongoing and multifaceted with the participation of people involved through events. We hope that this cross-sectional initiative will continue in the future, leading to further promotion of understanding of diversity.
