The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, for which we helped create the space, was awarded the Yellow Pencil *, the gold award, in the Spatial design category of the D&AD Awards 2020 (UK).
The D&AD Awards are a global award established in 1962 by the London-based non-profit organization D&AD (Design & Art Direction) with the aim of encouraging and supporting creativity in design and advertising. This marks the 58th time the awards have been held, with entries from over 50 countries and around 250 judges judging each category.
The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum's East Building has received the Grand Prize of the DSA KUKAN DESIGN AWARD 2017, the Grand Prize of the 36th Display Industry Award (2017), and the Sign Design Encouragement Award of the 51st Japan Sign Design Award, as well as the 2017 Best of Year Awards (USA), 2017 IIDA Global Excellence Awards (USA), and iF DESIGN AWARD 2018 (Germany). The Main Building has received the KUKAN DESIGN AWARD 2019 KUKAN OF THE YEAR and the Excellence Award of the 38th Display Industry Award.
At this year's D&AD Awards, the overall project combining the East and Main Buildings was highly praised, winning the Yellow Pencil.
Going forward, we will continue to keep in mind the perspective of those who will use the space and work to create rich spaces that can contribute to our customers' businesses.

The project involves the renovation of the main building, which will focus on atomic bombing materials in order to convey the reality of the bombing to future generations, as well as a complete renewal of the East Building.
Through the "perspective of the atomic bomb survivors," we attempted to evoke memories of the immeasurable devastation. To achieve this, the space was divided into two. The first area was an area where visitors could relive the path of the victims' wanderings, likening the indiscriminate damage on August 6th ("group") to the scene of the tragedy, and the second area was an area where visitors could confront the despair and suffering of each individual victim ("individual"), likening the lamentations of each individual victim to the "individual" exhibit.
This series of landscapes, made up of a vast collection of memories and records, has created a space where the cries of the souls of atomic bomb survivors from all walks of life can resonate in the hearts of people all over the world.

We are extremely pleased to receive such an internationally prestigious award for our renovation project covering the entire museum. I feel that the significance of the D&AD Award lies in the fact that it evaluates not only spatial design, but also the value of social initiatives in all creative fields, including craft, advertising, culture and art. This project brought all of us together to interpret memories and records as spatial experiences, confront the essence of the atomic bombing, and capture the world. We hope that many people will visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. (Design Direction: Tanaka Toshitake)
