About the Project

Overview The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum East Building has been renovated. The exhibition room is mainly composed of three areas. The "Introduction Exhibit" features a "White Panorama" that projects CG (computer graphics) Video of the atomic bombing onto a white diorama that resembles Hiroshima City, recreating the city's instantaneous destruction. There are also areas such as "The Dangers of Nuclear Weapons," which explains the mechanism of the atomic bomb and the current state of nuclear development, and "Hiroshima's Progress," which introduces efforts toward reconstruction and peace.
Issues/Themes To create a place that gives people an opportunity to think about the meaning of how things disappear in an instant as a result of the atomic bomb, and to create an exhibit that conveys to future generations in an easy-to-understand way the inhumanity of the atomic bomb and the terrible damage it caused.
Space Solution/Realization We focused on the relationship between pairs of events brought about by the atomic bomb, such as before and after the bombing, destruction and reconstruction, life and death, and thoroughly designed contrasts. This is an attempt to make memories more visible. We also introduced techniques that appeal to the senses, such as incorporating technologies such as the "White Panorama" and the large touch-screen information terminal "Media Table," and exhibiting models of the Atomic Bomb Dome before and after the bombing, allowing visitors to feel the power of the atomic bomb by touching them. In order to communicate with everyone, we also provided explanations in 18 languages and sign language videos.
