"Ecol Togoshi -Shinagawa City Environmental Learning and Exchange Facility"
(Design category: Opening up children's creativity and the future)
【overview】
Located in the lush Togoshi Park, this is the first public building in Tokyo to be Nearly ZEB certified, achieving a 91% energy reduction. With hands-on exhibits that allow visitors to learn about the environment while enjoying it from the perspective of daily life, this facility tackles the theme of the environment from a hard perspective. The facility is also an exchange facility that aims to encourage environmental learning among local residents and children who will create the future, and to cultivate the spirit of taking action on the environment themselves.
As the effects of global warming become more apparent each year, there is a growing demand within Japan for countermeasures and education about the environment, making it an even more pressing issue. We therefore conceived of a business that would nurture people who put environmental conservation into practice on a daily basis and center its vision for the future around children's environmental education.
As a way to think together with children about the connection between themselves and the environment with an eye to a sustainable future, the exhibition attempted to create a system in which the environment is viewed in terms of "space" and "time" while centering on everyday life, and environmental awareness is transformed into action.
