Tanseisha and Autodesk, Inc. (Headquarters: California, USA / President and CEO: Andrew Anagnost, hereinafter referred to as "Autodesk") have signed a new "Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation" (hereinafter referred to as "MOU 2.0") with the aim of further utilizing BIM data.

In 2022, we signed an MOU with Autodesk, the first company in the domestic display industry, and have been promoting the use of BIM. We have formulated our own BIM management guidelines, the "Tansei BIM Platform"*1, and established a usage infrastructure that includes company-wide training for BIM utilization. As a result of rolling this out to all departments and introducing it into actual projects, we have achieved many results, including improved productivity and the ability to handle projects under complex conditions that were difficult to handle with the traditional workflow.
By signing MOU 2.0 with Autodesk and further enhancing the "Tansei BIM Platform," we aim to improve productivity and propose high added value to our customers. In addition, to address the worsening labor shortage, we will promote the development of the supply chain infrastructure, positioning the use of BIM as an important theme in this effort, and will secure the production system while contributing to the creation of a sustainable society.

Tanseisha and Autodesk sign new Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership (MOU 2.0) to move to the next stage after company-wide rollout of BIM utilization

Background of the initiative

In Japan, the economy continues to recover slowly, and demand for space creation is strong, with the World Expo coming up, a rapid recovery in inbound tourism, and urban redevelopment providing favorable conditions. On the other hand, while there is an increasing demand for environmental friendliness and safety, issues such as rising prices of construction materials and serious labor shortages are becoming apparent, and there is an ever-increasing demand for improved productivity and the provision of high-value-added services.
Under these circumstances, Tanseisha is working to transform its business processes, focusing in particular on utilizing digital technologies, particularly BIM. The government is also promoting BIM acceleration projects and the introduction of building confirmation applications using BIM, supporting efforts to improve productivity using BIM.

Key Initiatives Under MOU 2.0

1. Based on the "Tansei BIM Platform," connect the entire business process, including the supply chain
By utilizing Autodesk solutions such as Autodesk Revit®※2 and Autodesk Construction Cloud® (hereinafter ACC)※3 to strengthen the collaboration between design and production, we will achieve front-loading. This will not only improve productivity, but also aim to provide added value to customers, such as rapid response to projects. In addition, we will use the Tansei BIM Platform to develop the supply chain infrastructure and streamline business processes.

2. Promote further use of ACC and strengthen data utilization across projects
BIM data prepared by the "Tansei BIM Platform" will be consolidated into ACC, and not only will ACC's functions be utilized for each project, but the cross-sectional utilization of project information will be strengthened. In addition, we will develop workflows that take into account the utilization of accumulated BIM data and AI.

3. Aiming to advance design and production work using BIM
We will continue to work on improving design methods, such as developing automated design using BIM, such as generative design.*4 In production work, we will also strengthen our use of ACC and collaboration with construction sites, further expanding the scope of use of BIM data.

*1:Tansei BIM Platform: Refers to Tanseisha's unique guidelines for creating BIM data suited to its interior display work.
*2: Autodesk Revit®: BIM software provided by Autodesk. It covers a wide range of fields including design, structure, and facilities. It enables high-level data utilization through linking with various software via the Revit API and the ability to manage attribute information for components. It is currently available in 14 languages.
*3: Autodesk Construction Cloud®: A cloud service for project management for the construction industry provided by Autodesk. It realizes digitalized and visualized project management with functions such as viewing drawing data and work management. It also functions as a data platform that seamlessly links with external applications through numerous APIs.
*4: Generative design: A method of automating and optimizing the design process using AI. Unlike traditional processes, AI analyzes data and uses algorithms to generate a variety of design proposals.

We are very pleased that the MOU 1.0 we signed in 2022 has produced visible results for Tanseisha's business, such as increased productivity and improved workflow. With the signing of MOU 2.0, we will further deepen the collaboration between our two companies and actively support Tanseisha's use of BIM to create added value in their "spatial creation."

TANSEISHA Co., Ltd. President and Chief Executive Ofcer Osamu Kobayashi
Three years have passed since we signed the MOU 1.0 with Autodesk, and we feel that we have made steady progress in laying the foundation for BIM utilization and have achieved many results. In terms of the external environment for our business, the use of BIM in Japan is accelerating, with Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announcing a policy for using BIM in building confirmation applications. Tanseisha has taken a big step in the use of BIM, but in order to create new value and reform business processes, it is essential to use it more advancedly and expand it to the supply chain. To achieve this, we will continue our strong collaboration with Autodesk, actively incorporate cutting-edge technology and new values, and strive to evolve further as professionals in creating spaces that move people's hearts.
