● Taisuke Uegakiuchi (Design Center Principal Creative Director)
The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed for a major paradigm shift. In response to the question, "What were creators and managers thinking and imagining?", many applicants presented a variety of issues and their solutions, and the winner was selected by a panel of people who are actually involved in store construction. We hope that the contest will continue to grow as a platform for considering the future of Commercial Spaces as times change, and as a contest that functions to connect creators and companies.

Akihiro Suzuki (General Manager, Spatial Media Marketing Division, CMI Center)
Space is an "experiential medium" that conveys ideas and values through experiences. Many of the ideas submitted this time were not limited to interior design or spatial gimmicks, but were also strongly conscious of the experiences of visitors. There was a wide variety of perspectives for digging deeper into experiences, and in an era when the evolution of technology, including online communication, is changing the role of real space, we were reminded of the new possibilities for real spaces that create experiences that happen there now.

About this contest

As a pioneer in spatial creation within the chain store business, Tanseisha has worked to create Japan's leading select shops and restaurant chains. This contest will widely solicit ideas for creating new spatial experiences suitable for the next generation of stores. As part of its open innovation initiative, Tanseisha's clients will participate as judges, and Tanseisha's project managers, designers and Cross Media Innovation Headquarters, who promote spatial creation, will work with the clients to explore the possibility of introducing and realizing the best ideas into actual stores.
