About the Project

Overview With the extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen and the registration of the Tomioka Silk Mill as a World Heritage Site, the interior of Takasaki Shinkansen Station, the gateway to Joshu, has been completely renovated. In addition to revitalizing the commercial tenant area, the waiting room has been transformed into a space that proactively conveys information about the attractions of the area, such as "Tourism resources," "historic crafts," and "the Tomioka Silk Mill, which has been registered as a World Heritage Site."
Issues/Themes To create a place that actively encourages users to discover the local charm, "Joushu-ness." Also, to create Public Spaces that is comfortable for everyone.
Space Solution/Realization In order to play a role in revitalizing regional cities as a station that connects the region with the city center, we formulated the concept of creating a place that can contribute to regional revitalization while utilizing the station's public functions. With the cooperation of the government and other related parties, and by planning together with the business operators, we created a station space that can be a place where people can discover the charm of the area throughout the four seasons.
