About the Project

Overview Renewal of the flagship blood contribution room in Yurakucho. Relaxing waiting room and other comfortable space form a peaceful environment for the visitors to donate their blood. The facility is positioned as "Platform of Humanitarian Support", and it also has a space to introduce the activities of the Red Cross.
Issues/Themes To increase the number of blood donors, under the social circumstances where more and more blood is needed. Concurrently, to promote a better understanding of Red Cross' activities including blood contribution. As the basis for these purposes, to create functional space for a safe and secure blood contribution.
Space Solution/Realization "Nest" was the design concept, meaning hospitable welcome, warm lap and nurture of life. We've proposed a hospitality space for a cozy and comfortable visit. Besides, to promote participation and revisit of donors, a specific space for information transmission and intercommunication has been set up, where visitors can realize the meaning and good effect of blood contribution. After the renewal, the occurrence frequency of undesirable side effects during blood withdrawal (illness, chill etc.) has decreased.
