About the Project

Overview This pop-up store, which opened in Santa Monica, California, USA, is based on Japanese capsule toys and crane games, and aims to promote Japanese intellectual property (IP) to overseas markets. Aimed at local users and Tourism, it features "gacha" (capsule toys) where customers can obtain a variety of IP products and "UFO catchers" filled with character goods, creating a space where customers can experience Japanese entertainment culture. The space was designed to increase visitor numbers and enhance the value of the experience.
Issues/Themes The goal is to create a highly engaging space that strongly impresses overseas audiences with the unique worldview of a pop-up store originating in Japan, while also capturing local needs and allowing visitors to intuitively experience Japanese "kawaii" culture.
Space Solution/Realization To intuitively convey Japan's "kawaii" culture to the world, we adopted the technique of "decorating" the space, Spatial Production a pop and photogenic atmosphere throughout the store. Gacha and crane game motifs were strategically placed to create a space that conveys fun at a glance. Furthermore, by creating an efficient and densely packed layout similar to a Japanese convenience store, we enhanced customer flow and displayed a large number of products to create an experiential pop-up store surrounded by kawaii items.
