About the Project

Overview This is a Kirishima Shuzo direct-operated shop located within "KIRISHIMA GREENSHIP icoia," a new facility built on the grounds adjacent to the Kirishima Shuzo headquarters factory as a result of a collaboration between Kirishima Shuzo and Starbucks. With the desire to make shochu more accessible and enjoyable, the shop offers mixers, snacks, and drinking vessels that pair well with shochu.
Issues/Themes To create a store design that is appropriate as part of "KIRISHIMA GREENSHIP icoia," a facility that has already been designed and established as a place that embodies a commitment to the local community and the natural environment.
The goal is to differentiate it from the existing directly managed store, "Shochu no Sato Kirishima Factory Garden," while maintaining the prestige of the historic Kirishima Shuzo brand and creating a store that is widely loved for its casual atmosphere.
Space Solution/Realization Following the facility's concept of sustainable use of natural materials, we adopted natural materials such as Ryukyu limestone from Okinawa Prefecture, which is considered the origin of sweet potatoes used as an ingredient in shochu, and shirasu, which forms the soil of southern Kyushu. This allowed us to create a space that harmonizes with the facility while maintaining Ipmea's presence. By incorporating Ryukyu limestone and custom-colored metalwork with a glossy finish as accents amidst the warm materials of plaster and wood, we created a space where the dignity cultivated by Kirishima Shuzo and the casual softness of the merchandise linked to the store's concept coexist.
