About the Project

Overview Following the relocation of the head office from Konan MINATO CITY ku to Nishioi Shinagawa City the museum was also renovated within the new headquarters. This facility allows visitors to experience Nikon's history of over 100 years, including products and technologies that symbolize "tradition and innovation," and the thoughts and feelings that went into them along with stories. As part of the head office relocation project, Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei designed the entire building, while our company was in charge of the interior construction and exhibits in the museum section.
Issues/Themes The goal is to preserve, store, relocate and manage the exhibits, which total more than 2,000 items including accessories, while arranging them efficiently within the limited time until the opening. Each exhibit is displayed with attention to its appeal and its relationship with the surrounding exhibits.
Space Solution/Realization Working side by side with the designers, we considered the numbering of the exhibits and the display method. We created a solution to the conservation and storage issues by selecting antistatic cushioning materials, monitoring with cameras at all times, and limiting contact with the exhibits to a limited number of staff. While considering the composition and display to suit the characteristics of the thematic exhibition, we unpacked the numbered lenses and existing exhibit items in numerical order, inspected them at the same time, and efficiently displayed them in a month and a half. In addition, we measured approximately 280 of the total 1,300 exhibits and created original jigs for 250 of them. We also took into consideration how the exhibits would look when displayed, and worked closely with the client to maximize the appeal of the exhibits.
