About the Project

Overview Located on Sanjo-dori, a popular Tourism spot, this museum introduces a wide range of Kyoto's traditional culture with the concept of "Machinaka Museum/Kyoto's Window". It was reopened in July 2011 after renovation, aiming to help visitors understand the depth of Kyoto's history in a fun way through the "real things" of Kyoto.
Issues/Themes Our goal was to create an exhibition space that, within a limited space, would express the depth of Kyoto culture while also providing an overview of Kyoto's history.
Space Solution/Realization Over 1,000 years of Kyoto history is expressed in the "Emaki Kairo" corridor, a series of giant Video. High-definition Video of ancient drawings vividly depicting the towns and people of each period, from the Heian to the Kamakura to the Muromachi to the Edo period, are displayed. As you walk through the corridor, you can experience the flow of Kyoto's culture and history.
