About the Project

Overview The blood donation room blends in with the historic streets of Kyoto's Fushimi district, exuding a Japanese atmosphere. The welcoming space, which incorporates an abundance of natural materials such as plaster, wood and fabric, gives people a sense of relaxation and security. Through the heartwarming act of donating blood, it has become a place where people can foster connections with each other, and it continues to be loved by people of all generations as a "place of bonds" that people want to visit again and again.
Issues/Themes As a community-based blood donation room, we aim to make it more familiar to local people and to create an open atmosphere so that first-time visitors can feel at ease when donating blood.
Space Solution/Realization By incorporating materials and techniques familiar to the local area, we have created a warm and friendly atmosphere, and developed a room design that allows people of all ages to relax. In order to ease the tension of blood donors, the entrance is a lattice door that allows a glimpse of the atmosphere inside, and the layout of the room is open so that staff can keep an eye on everyone. The blood donation room has become a place of relaxation for local people, and is visited by many people.
