About the Project

Overview Having walked hand in hand with the history of Hokkaido's development, the Sapporo Grand Hotel, a representative hotel of Sapporo, was established in 1934 as Hokkaido's first full-fledged Western-style hotel and has now celebrated its 90th anniversary. As part of the commemorative projects, all 148 guest rooms and common areas of the main building have been completely renovated for the first time in approximately 40 years.
Issues/Themes To embody the essence of the Sapporo Grand Hotel, deeply rooted in the Hokkaido landscape. Along with renovating the bathrooms and kitchens, to improve functionality such as lighting and power supply to keep pace with changing times.
Space Solution/Realization The design concept is "neoclassical." We aimed for a space that feels both new and nostalgic, and that deepens in character with the passage of time without becoming outdated. The main building, in particular, has a long history and many devoted fans, so we made sure to preserve some of its past essence to create a space where guests can feel nostalgic. Through classical details incorporated throughout, carpets and cushions featuring the hotel's symbol, the eight-pointed star, and photographic artwork capturing historical moments, we have Spatial Production a unique space befitting a grand hotel.
