About the Project

Overview Since its opening in 1986, the general museum has been loved as a place to introduce the history, folklore, and nature of Fuchu City, and has been renovated. The museum has been undergoing gradual renovation since 2007, with the aim of further enhancing its activities as a place for school education to learn about the characteristics of the region and as a place for cultural creation among local citizens. The museum exhibits life-like models of history, folklore, and nature from prehistoric times to modern times, fused with participatory exhibits that first opened in 2008, allowing visitors to get a feel for the scale of the time.
Issues/Themes We aim to create a user-friendly exhibition space that takes universal design into consideration, as well as to create an exhibition story unique to Fuchu that reflects the results of research and studies, and to create a space where visitors can learn while having fun through their own experiences.
Space Solution/Realization Large-scale models and dioramas based on the latest research findings are positioned as symbols of each corner, clearly highlighting the unique characteristics of Fuchu in each era and field. Large banner signs are also installed, taking advantage of the shape of the exhibition room, creating a well-balanced exhibition space. In addition to considering universal design, handrails are installed around the display cases and models to allow visitors to view materials and models up close and to allow children to take notes while studying.
