A museum that "stimulates thought" renovated from an abandoned school

Overview | This is Shizuoka Prefecture's first natural history museum, and the first in the country with the theme of "global environmental history." The museum's main themes are "natural history, which is Shizuoka's nature and its history," and "environmental history, which considers the relationship between people and nature and how we will live in the future." It aims to be a place that will encourage people to think about "what we can do to ensure that Shizuoka is prosperous 100 years from now." The museum was built by renovating an abandoned school, and there are 10 exhibition rooms that use old classrooms for each theme. |

Issues/Themes | The theme of this facility is "Thinking about the richness of the future," and the exhibits will be created in the abandoned school building to encourage people to put this into practice in their daily lives. |
Space Solution/Realization | Taking advantage of the inherent characteristics of a school as a place for learning and teaching, we have made it possible to put "thinking" into practice. In the 10 exhibition rooms, we have set up four phases: "1. Asking questions" - "2. Encouraging thinking" - "3. Encouraging dialogue" - "4. Encouraging action," and have created an exhibition structure that steps up the "thinking" process. Through this series of exhibits, we aim to develop the human ability to think for oneself and put ideas into practice. |
