Learn about Katsushika Hokusai in a wide, deep and fun way in a space that expresses his theme, "All Things: The Universe"
Photo: Forward Stroke inc.
Overview | This is a museum dedicated to Katsushika Hokusai, a world-renowned ukiyo-e artist from Japan. In addition to exhibiting Hokusai's works, the museum also introduces the connection between Hokusai, who spent most of his long life in Sumida Ward, and Sumida. The permanent exhibition room is arranged in chronological order so that visitors can relive the life of Hokusai, who continued to pursue the path of an artist, trying to depict everything in the universe. In addition, the spatial design expresses Hokusai's subject matter, "Everything in the Universe." |
---|---|
Issues/Themes | To create a facility that will convey to many people about Hokusai's works, his life, and his relationship with Sumida. To disseminate information about Hokusai to the local and global communities, and to serve as a base for cultural promotion and regional revitalization. |
Space Solution/Realization | In addition to showcasing the works through high-definition replicas, we have devised ways to make it enjoyable for foreigners and children alike to deepen their understanding by utilizing technology such as high-definition monitors that allow you to see the fine details of the nishiki-e prints enlarged and interactive terminals that allow you to learn about Hokusai's techniques in a game-like manner. We have also been involved in the operation of the facility since it opened, and continue to provide a variety of information through exhibitions and events on a wide range of themes. |
