About the Project

Overview This is an all-weather indoor play facility that opened in front of Tama Dobutsu Koen Station on the Keio Dobutsuen Line, where you can play while experiencing the warmth of wood. There are a variety of play areas, including a "Wood Education Space" where you can stimulate your interest in the natural environment by interacting with wooden play equipment and toys, a "Physical Education Space" where you can play freely using your whole body, mainly with net play equipment that requires a sense of balance, and an "Educational Space" where you can develop an interest in how things work and develop your creativity by incorporating toys and equipment that require you to think for yourself. It is a facility that parents and children can enjoy, with an indoor mini steam locomotive, a cafe, a gift shop, and more.
Issues/Themes By providing a place where children can play to their heart's content in a safe environment and explore their own unique ways of playing using their minds and bodies, we aim to create a facility that can stimulate children's curiosity and encourage their growth through play.
Space Solution/Realization We created separate areas for each age group, from infants to elementary school students, and designed original toys and play equipment that take into account wood education, physical education, and intellectual development, arranging them in a way that suits each age group, creating a facility where children can learn and discover new things while playing. With the rich nature of Tama as a backdrop, we imagined a forest where children can learn while playing freely, and created a space that can be enjoyed by multiple generations, especially children, as the Keio Group aims to make the Keio Line a "child-friendly" place. Making use of the local resource of Tama's forests, we incorporated many materials from Tama designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Design for Environment In addition to being barrier-free, the design took safety into consideration, including rounding the corners of fixtures and play equipment, cushioning the play equipment, measures to prevent fingers from getting caught, and using cushioned flooring. In addition, we thoroughly examined the flow plan within the building and designed it so that children can move around safely and freely.
