About the Project

Overview The facility conveys the value and charm of the World Heritage Site "Hiraizumi" to future generations as a common asset for all mankind, and also serves as an exhibition facility for materials excavated from the Yanagigosho ruins, and also functions as a starting point for Tourism to tour Hiraizumi. Under the themes of "Hiraizumi Information," "Prologue," "The World of Hiraizumi," and "Yanagigosho Ruins and the Oshu Fujiwara Clan," it combines actual historical materials with Video and model models to introduce the overall picture of Hiraizumi, the worldview of the Buddhist land (Pure Land), the history of the Oshu Fujiwara Clan, and more.
Issues/Themes The aim is to convey to visitors the philosophy and value of Hiraizumi as a World Heritage Site in an easy-to-understand manner, using historical materials and digital technology. The facility will also function as a base for sightseeing Tourism in conjunction with the adjacent Yanagi no Gosho Historic Site Park.
Space Solution/Realization We created a story that gives an overall picture of Hiraizumi and its historical background, and produced a non-verbal double feature Video for Tourism from around the world. The "Prologue Theater" is equipped with a wide screen and advanced projection technology, allowing visitors to experience the worldview of the "Buddhist Land (Pure Land)" of the World Heritage Site "Hiraizumi." We also created an exhibition structure that allows visitors to deepen their understanding of the ruins by combining interactive content with a 1/100 scale restored diorama that reproduces the building in detail.
Design for Environment Energy-saving design: Uses energy-saving, long-life, and highly durable LED lighting.
Universal design: Major explanations are provided in multiple languages, and multilingual audio guides are available in 30 locations within the permanent exhibition. Video are subtitled in both Japanese and English, and there are also Braille overviews of each section, tactile maps, and tactile models to accommodate a diverse range of visitors.
Cultural property Preservation Planning: In order to accommodate the exhibition and preservation environment of important cultural properties, airtight cases are used for the basic wall cases and individual cases for the permanent and special exhibitions. The lighting can also be adjusted to suit the materials.
