About the Project

Overview This is the base facility (nicknamed the I'Museum Center) of the "I'Museum," which appropriately preserves and utilizes Ichihara City 's abundant historical resources and materials, and likens the entire city to a field museum (a museum without a roof). The new building and existing facilities are combined, and the main theme is "A journey through Ichihara's history woven by Tokyo Bay and the Yoro River." As part of Ichihara City 's efforts to "connect people," linking people and regions through historical and cultural activities, the center supports citizens' historical and cultural activities and exchanges.
Issues/Themes The facility will be a fusion of the existing Ichihara City Buried Cultural Property Research Center, which will be partially renovated, and a new building with a permanent exhibition room, etc. Also, the facility will be able to display a variety of valuable materials within the limited space.
Space Solution/Realization The newly built permanent exhibition room will feature a variable space system that can also be used to display important cultural properties as "historical exhibits." It will be able to accommodate a variety of uses, including in-depth exhibits on the themes of a particular era and special exhibits.
Meanwhile, the existing building has been renovated and reconfigured as a "folk exhibition," allowing visitors to experience the life of Ichihara in the past through dynamic Spatial Production of fishing, farming and other tools.
The hall organically connects all of these areas, introducing the current situation and history of the entire Ichihara City, inviting visitors to discover the charm of Ichihara, and also plays a role in passing on the pride and affection for the region to the next generation.
Design for Environment Energy-saving design: Uses energy-saving, long-life, and highly durable LED lighting.
Cultural property Preservation Planning: Airtight cases are used for the main wall cases in the permanent exhibition room to accommodate the exhibition and preservation environment of important cultural properties.
