About the Project

Overview The Kobe Maritime Museum is a symbol of the port of Kobe, and opened in 1987 as part of the 120th anniversary of the opening of the port of Kobe. This time, the museum has been renovated with a new theme of "The History of Kobe and Its Ports," and aims to contribute to the development of future maritime talent by providing opportunities to learn about and experience the history and work of the sea, ships, and ports.
Issues/Themes Clarifying the facility's theme and increasing the facility's ability to attract customers by offering experiences that can only be had here.
Utilizing one of the largest collections of ship models in Japan.
To create a synergistic effect with Kawasaki World, the corporate museum of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. located within the building, and to create a lively atmosphere at the facility.
Space Solution/Realization The theater, which symbolizes the theme of the entire museum, welcomes visitors with an overwhelming Spatial Production that makes use of the large entrance space and the existing large-scale model "Rodney." In addition, the existing ship models have been organized and displayed on fixtures that evoke the image of sea routes, providing an impressive look at the history of the evolution and diversification of ships. In addition, original experience devices such as a ship-handling simulator and gantry crane have been introduced, as well as 3D photo spots related to the sea, ships, and ports, providing highly original experiential value.
