About the Project

Overview Located inside the newly built members-only resort hotel "Sanctuary Court Takayama Art Gallery Resort" in Takayama City, Gifu Gifu Prefecture, this art museum inherits the name and collection of the former Hida Takayama Art Museum that was located in the same location. It exhibits glass crafts from the 16th to 20th centuries collected from all over the world, as well as Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and glass crafts by contemporary artists, and furniture and lamps from the late 19th century, and is open to the public as well as guests staying at the hotel.
Issues/Themes The building is built on a hill overlooking the magnificent Northern Alps, and the overall concept of the facility is an "art gallery resort." Taking into account the location, facility concept, and the fact that it will be located within a hotel, the facility will be developed as a place for art appreciation.
Space Solution/Realization We have created a space that emphasizes the senses of sight, hearing, and smell so that the nature depicted in the artworks will resonate with the rich nature of Takayama, making the exhibition space itself a place for experiencing art. Comprised of five exhibition rooms with different themes, we have incorporated the changing nature of Takayama into the spatial design, and are particular about exhibition methods that bring out the appeal of each work to the fullest, creating a place where visitors can encounter unique works that could only be realized in this location.
Design for Environment Universal design: Considering that the area is visited by many Tourism from overseas, we have prepared mobile guidance in six languages.
