About the Project

Overview Shunkado's "Unagi Pie" is a famous confectionery from Hamamatsu that is loved throughout Japan. Based on the product concept of "family gatherings" and the main theme of "anniversaries," the store was established as a cultural value creation center that will serve as a hub (contact point) between the local community, employees, and Tourism, and will revitalize Tourism in Hamamatsu and strengthen ties with the local community.
In addition to the Shunkado headquarters, the complex also includes the Morita branch of Hamamatsu Iwata Shinkin Bank, the rebranded "SWEETS BANK SHOP Shunkado," and the Shunkado-operated cafe and bakery "Tora to Fusen." We were particular about the interior design down to the last detail, and Produce a facility that will bring smiles to the faces of all who visit.
Issues/Themes To mark the 130th anniversary of the company's founding, the company decided to build a new facility with a different function from the commercial facility "nicoe," and to create an "office unlike any other in the world" that is characteristic of Shunkado. The company also plans to contribute to Tourism industry after COVID-19.
Space Solution/Realization We have been helping Shunkado with the creation of their facilities for a long time, including the commercial facility "nicoe" that opened in 2014, the Shunkado Hamakita Factory, and the cafe and exterior of the Unagi Pie Factory, and we have been involved from the concept stage in this third base facility. We carried out comprehensive Produce, from building the headquarters functions to further connect with the local community, proposing a landmark that will become a symbol of the area, to the ideal interior design.
By creating a dining table-shaped structure that evokes the image of a family gathering, the building is symbolized as a base for fostering ties between the company and the local community. Everyday items found on a dining table are arranged as scaled-down objects that evoke the various aspects of the facility, such as the offices, bank, shops, and cafes.
After a long period of consideration and discussion with the business owner, management consulting companies, property management companies, Architectural Design offices, general contractors, and others, we have completed an unprecedented "headquarters that people will want to visit."
