About the Project

Overview This museum is located in the "Tea and Uji Town Historical Park," which was created by developing the remains of the historic Uji River Taiko Bank adjacent to Uji Station, and provides information on the "charms of Uji tea" and the "history and culture of Uji." As a base for Tourism in Uji, it is a place where people visiting Uji can broaden their understanding and discover new attractions through exhibits and experiences. The museum will be developed and operated by Uji Machizukuri Uji town development and revitalization Network Co.,Ltd. a special purpose company (SPC) established for Uji City 's PFI project, "Tea and Uji Town Historical Park Development and Operation Project (tentative name)."
Issues/Themes The facility aims to Tourism visitors to learn more about the appeal of Uji tea and the history and culture of Uji, while also introducing them to the charms of the various regions.
Space Solution/Realization The exhibition rooms are made up of the "Uji Tea Room" and the "History Room." The "Uji Tea Room" exhibits provide a wide range of information to visitors, from an overview of Uji tea and its history dating back to the Kamakura period, to the reasons why Uji tea was established as a tea brand. It also explains how high-quality tea continues to be produced today through careful tea-making. The "History Room" aims to invite visitors to explore the town of Uji afterwards by introducing the history and culture of Uji while also conveying the appeal of Tourism spots scattered around the city. In addition to the actual objects, models, and graphic exhibits, the museum also makes use of Video and interactive content to provide an experience that will broaden visitors' interests.
Design for Environment Universal design: All Video content is subtitled in both Japanese and English to accommodate foreign visitors as well as visitors with hearing impairments. In addition, the multilingual smartphone app "T-VOIX" is used to provide explanations of the graphics in five different languages.
