About the Project

Overview The Battle of Sekigahara, which took place in 1600, is one of the most famous battles in Japanese history. Many warlords participated in the battle with different positions and motives, leaving behind many dramatic events and becoming a turning point for a great change in the times. This facility has been developed to serve as a base for touring ancient battlefields and historical sites, allowing visitors to experience the battle that took place here 420 years ago on the very battlefield, and to convey it in an easy-to-understand manner for everyone.
Issues/Themes The remains of the battlefield and camps have been designated as a national historic site, and in addition to the stone monuments that remain from the fields to the city, the facility aims to encourage interest and understanding of the battle that took place here, and to commemorate and recall the Battle of Sekigahara.
Space Solution/Realization In order to further stimulate interest in the Battle of Sekigahara, a battle that everyone has heard of, we aimed to create a facility with an "overwhelming presence" that would make people want to visit from far away.
The first floor functions as a pavilion, and after introducing the history of the battle across the country and the East and West camps from an "aerial perspective" in an easy-to-understand way, visitors can experience the intensity of the battle from the "perspective of a soldier." The second floor functions as a museum, and with the help of exhibits, provides a detailed explanation of the origins and progress of the battle, as well as the post-war settlement. There is also a Sengoku experience corner, which can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. The fifth floor functions as a viewing area, and the battlefield experienced inside the museum spreads out before your eyes, allowing visitors to get a real feel for the events that took place here 420 years ago.
Design for Environment Universal design: All exhibition spaces are barrier-free. Information is provided in multiple languages, and the exhibits are designed to be enjoyable for everyone, from those with a strong history background to those with little knowledge.
Cultural property Preservation Planning: High-standard display cases are used. In the future, we plan to borrow cultural property materials from institutions related to the Battle of Sekigahara and hold topical special exhibitions.
