About the Project

Overview 25 years after its opening, Osaka City Sewerage Science Museum has been renovated as an educational facility to deepen understanding and interest in the sewerage system in Osaka City. The exhibition room is mainly aimed at fourth grade elementary school students and consists of a theater that conveys the importance of sewerage and exhibits that explain the role and structure of sewerage. In addition, there are exhibits on technological development and efforts to Overseas, as well as exhibits on companies that support the sewerage system in Osaka City.
Issues/Themes To be an information dissemination center for sewerage with three functions: "learning and training," "Overseas," and "technological development." To promote awareness and deepen understanding of the fact that sewerage is an essential lifeline for daily life, even though we rarely have a chance to see it.
Space Solution/Realization The aim was to help participants feel closer to sewerage systems through the experience of thinking about and understanding various questions relating to sewerage systems and making them something that concerns them personally.
The exhibition begins with the question, "What is a sewerage system?" and allows visitors to once again realize the large role and importance of sewerage in the convenient and comfortable lives that we take for granted in our daily lives. The exhibition also uses interactive displays to give visitors an experiential look at the workings of a sewerage system, which is something that is rarely seen directly.
