About the Project

Overview This was the first exhibition of original artwork for BLEACH, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump for 15 years starting in 2001. It was a real-life event held as the core of the 20th anniversary project, and it placed emphasis on providing a physical experience that could only be achieved in a space, rather than merely appreciating two-dimensional artwork.
By taking advantage of the venue's large space to create an overwhelming sense of presence, and sticking to the use of black and white, which symbolizes the artist's stylish style, we have created a Spatial Production space that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the unique world of the works.
Issues/Themes For an event being held five years after the end of the series, we predicted the demographic of visitors and created a space that would foster a worldview of the work that goes beyond simply displaying the original drawings, and draw in visitors' emotions.
Space Solution/Realization While the target audience was core fans of the work, we aimed to create an exhibition that would resonate with a diverse range of fans through a clear spatial Spatial Production that would appeal to casual fans as well, with a stylish, monochrome world.
By using original Video created specifically for the exhibition and a multi-layered structure that takes advantage of the venue's unique depth, the originally two-dimensional manga works are made to appear three-dimensional, creating an "experience unique to an original art exhibition" that can only be realized in a real space.
Design for Environment 3R design: We considered the size and graphic specifications so that they can be reused at other venues for the planned traveling exhibition. / Universal design: We considered the height of the exhibited works, the width of the aisles, and the flow of traffic so that those in wheelchairs can easily view the works. / Cultural property Preservation Planning: When exhibiting the original drawings, we used ultraviolet filters for the lighting and adjusted the illuminance of the works in all corners.
