About the Project

Overview It opened inside Awara Onsen Station's west exit bustling facility, Aflare, which was developed in anticipation of the Hokuriku Shinkansen's extension to Tsuruga in spring 2024. It consists of a Tourism information space that promotes the attractions of Awara City and Fukui Prefecture, and a kids' space that can be used daily by local residents. As befitting a hot spring town, the exhibition space is dotted with hot spring-related motifs and items, and the space allows visitors to enjoy discovering the various charms of Fukui through the exhibits and experiences.
Issues/Themes In anticipation of the increase in the number of Tourism visitors that will accompany the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line between Kanazawa and Tsuruga, the area should serve as the "northern gateway to Fukui Prefecture" and a base for Tourism excursions throughout the Fukui area. At the same time, the facility should be designed for daily use as a place for citizens to interact and relax.
Space Solution/Realization As a place that introduces the charms of the hot spring town of Awara City as well as famous places, gourmet foods, and experience spots throughout the Fukui Prefecture region, the space is decorated to resemble a hot spring and features a variety of experiential content to provide information with interest. In addition, a large mural map that provides a panoramic view of recommended spots in the prefecture is provided to create a sense of excitement that encourages visitors to Tourism tour around the area. In addition, a children's space is provided to provide a place where not only station users but also citizens can interact and utilize the space on a daily basis.
Design for Environment Universal design: The experience items and photo spots are designed to be wide and tall enough for wheelchair users and small children to use.
Safety design: The fixtures and fittings in the kids' space are made of resin for safety reasons. The play equipment also meets safety standards.
