About the Project

Overview The Children's Culture and Science Museum, beloved by local residents, has relocated and been renovated under the nickname "Space LABO" in a new commercial facility built on the former site of Space World.
The first floor features exhibits on Kitakyushu City of science and industry, the second floor is lined with experimental equipment on a scale that cannot be experienced in everyday life, and the third floor is a space where you can reflect on the relationship between the universe and humanity.
Issues/Themes The goal was to create a new vision for the science museum, under the conditions that it would be relocated to the historic site where the Yawata Steel Works and Space World were located, and be located adjacent to "THE OUTLETS KITAKYUSHU," a regional revitalization commercial facility developed by AEON Mall.
Space Solution/Realization With the concept of "Find the Wonders!", we aimed to cultivate scientific thinking in children who will lead Kitakyushu City in the future. Based on the theme of "A sense of wonder is the gateway to science," we considered the entire facility to be a "mystery emergence device" and designed exhibits that can be enjoyed from various scientific perspectives. Trivia exhibits and Spatial Production are scattered throughout the common areas, making it a facility that can be enjoyed by both adults and children, no matter where they are.
