About the Project

Overview This is a renovation of the Naraha Town History Museum, which was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake and closed. The museum was created through collaboration between the town and the university, with the theme of "Crisis, Regeneration, and Creating the Future", by fusing together materials from each other's perspectives and contributing to reconstruction support. By looking at the history of the earth, humanity, and the town from a macro perspective, the museum aims to treat the earthquake disaster as one of the crises facing the earth, and to serve as an opportunity to create the town's future.
Issues/Themes By combining the abundant specimens held by The University Museum with existing materials from the town's former historical museum, we were able to create a grand-scale exhibition story viewed from a macro perspective and communicate it to visitors in an easy-to-understand way.
Space Solution/Realization We have devised a way to communicate the exhibition story in an easy-to-understand way by inserting copy called "headline" at the beginning of each section. In addition, the exhibition is structured as a participatory one, where visitors can feel and learn that the Earth and humanity have overcome many crises while walking through the sections constructed with materials from the town and the university, and in the final section, they can hear the thoughts of the townspeople about the town's future, leading to the visitors' participation in the exhibition. We hope that this museum will become a platform for creating the future of the region.
