About the Project

Overview The warm wooden "Children's Plaza OLIVE" has been opened on the 4th floor of the "Parthenon Tama," a multipurpose cultural facility beloved by Tama City. It consists of the "Wakuwaku Plaza" where children can climb, slide, and play, the "Kira Kira Plaza" where anyone can relax, a library lounge with local books, and a cafe.
Issues/Themes To create a place for local residents where people of all generations can interact and that they will want to visit again and again. To create a facility where parents and children can play safely and securely, and that is familiar and loved by Tama City.
Space Solution/Realization Play equipment and furniture were made using materials from Tama, allowing children to come into contact with trees grown in the area. To encourage children's development, we designed the play equipment with simple mechanisms that children can use to play with themselves. We tried to avoid partitions within the area as much as possible, creating a space that is gently connected to encourage active interaction between generations. We took into consideration the flow of movement so that parents and children can play safely and securely, and created a space filled with wood that stimulates the five senses and allows parents and children to spend long periods of time together without getting bored.
Design for Environment Safe design: Cracks in the wood have been filled and corners have been rounded off, with particular attention paid to safety in the areas that children come into contact with.
